STATE V. PAXTON

July 3, 2017

Mohave County Superior Court. Defendant’s conviction and 10 year flat time sentence for possession of methamphetamine for sale vacated and case remanded for a new trial (The judge stated this is the first Petition for Post Conviction Relief he has ever granted).

US V. MENDOZA-PADILLA

August, 2016

Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ordered remand for resentencing.  October 2015: Defendant’s sentence vacated. Defendant sentenced to time served and released from custody.

STATE V. WILLIAMS

August, 2016

Court of Appeals Outcome: first-degree murder conviction reversed.  The defendant was resentenced to five years time served and released from custody.

US V. RAMIREZ

September, 2015

Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ordered remand for resentencing.  October 2015: Defendant’s sentence reduced by five years

STATE V. WOODS

August, 2015

Court of Appeals. Outcome: convictions for multiple counts of aggravated assault kidnapping etc. reversed, 87 year sentence vacated and case dismissed.

STATE V. CECENA

September 26, 2014

Trial judge denied defendant presentence incarceration credits from time in Mexican jail. Court of Appeals - case of first impression: case remanded for resentencing to give defendant his time credits.

STATE V. RHOME

August 1st, 2014

Arizona Court of Appeals defendant prosecuted for failing to appear in court. Conviction and 10 year sentence vacated

STATE V. KAUFMAN

February, 2011

Pima County Justice Court.  Outcome: Defendant’s DUI conviction vacated and motion for new trial granted.  Case subsequently dismissed.  (Judge stated in his 12 years on the bench this is the first Petition for Postconviction Relief he has granted on a claim of ineffective assistance of trial counsel).

Death penalty appeal. Arizona Supreme Court reversed and remanded for new trial.  Defendant was subsequently acquitted.
